Privacy policy
Last updated: October 24, 2026
This policy explains what personal information Stubborn Goat collects, why we collect it, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have. We've tried to keep it short and in plain English.
Who we are
Stubborn Goat, LLC is a California company doing business as Stubborn Goat Ski & Board Tune Shop ("Stubborn Goat", "we", "us"). We tune, wax and repair skis and snowboards.
- Address: 7547 Convoy Ct, San Diego, CA 92111
- Email: info@skistubborngoat.com
- Phone: (858) 876-2453
This policy covers our website, skistubborngoat.com, and our shop system (check-in at the counter, text messages, repair quotes and payments).
The short version
- We collect only what we need to answer you, take care of your gear and, if you sign up, send you our deals.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
- We never share or sell your mobile number or your text message consent with anyone for their marketing.
- Our website has no advertising cookies and no tracking across other websites.
- You can ask us to show you, fix or delete your information at any time.
What we collect and why
When you send us a message on the website
- What: your name, email address, phone number (if you give it), your message, and whether you checked the box to get text messages.
- Why: to read your message and reply to you. If you check the texting box, we may also reply by text.
- We also record the date and time you sent the form and the exact wording of the texting box you saw, so we have a record of your choice.
When you visit the website
- What: basic technical details that every website receives, such as your IP address (your internet address), browser type, device type, the page you asked for and the time.
- Why: to show you the page, keep the site safe and working, and stop spam and attacks.
- Visitor counts: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see simple totals, such as how many people visited a page. It does not use cookies and does not follow you from site to site.
- Spam check: our contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. Turnstile looks at signals from your browser and device (for example your IP address and browser details) only to do that check.
When you check in at the shop
When you drop off gear, you check in on our tablet. We collect:
- Your details: first and last name, mobile phone number and email address.
- Your gear: type (skis or snowboard), brand and model, the services you pick, and any notes.
- Photos of your gear, taken at drop-off or during a repair, to record its condition and show you any damage.
- Your signed maintenance agreement: your signature (drawn on the screen), your name, and the date and time you signed. We email you a copy.
- Your texting choice: whether you checked the box to get text messages, the wording you agreed to, and the date and time.
Why: to identify your gear, do the work you asked for, contact you about it, and keep a record of what we agreed. If you come back, your phone number lets us find your past visits so you don't have to type everything again.
Repair quotes
If a repair needs a price first, we send you a link to a quote page (by text if you agreed to texts, or by email). When you approve or decline, we record:
- your choice, any option you picked, and any note you add
- the name you type to confirm
- the price you saw and the date and time
- technical details of the device you used (such as IP address and browser)
Why: so we both have written proof of what you approved before we start work.
Payments
When you pay by card or phone at the counter, the payment is handled by our card payment company. We never see or store your full card number. We receive only what we need for our records, such as the amount, date, card type, the last four digits of the card and whether the payment went through. We keep records of what you paid, any deposit, and your receipt (sent by text or email, whichever you choose).
Why: to take payment, give you a receipt, handle refunds and keep our business and tax records.
AI tools our staff use
Our staff may use an AI assistant (artificial intelligence) inside our shop system to help them work faster, for example to find a past order, summarize notes about your gear or draft a reply to you. To answer, the assistant may send some of your information, such as your first name, your gear and service details and order history, to an AI service provider that works for us.
- We send as little as possible. We never send your signature, your card details, or your texting choice.
- Our AI service providers may use your information only to answer our staff's questions. They are not allowed to use it to train their AI or for their own purposes.
- They may keep a copy for a short time (usually up to 30 days, and never more than about 60 days) to prevent misuse, then delete it.
- A person on our staff always reviews what the assistant suggests. The assistant does not make decisions about you, and it does not send messages to you on its own.
Text messages you send us
If you reply to one of our texts, we keep your reply with your order so the whole conversation is in one place.
If you tell us how we did
A couple of days after you pick up your gear, we may ask you once how we did, on a scale of 1 to 5, by text (if you agreed to texts) or by email.
- What: your score, any comment you send us, the date and time, and which visit it was about. If you answer by email, our answer page also receives the basic technical details every website receives (see "When you visit the website").
- Why: to learn what we do well and what to fix. If your score is low, the owner may call you to make things right.
- Thank-you reward: when our thank-you reward is on, everyone who answers gets the same reward, whatever score they give. We keep a record of the reward and when it was used. It is a thank-you for answering us. It never depends on whether you post a public review or what it says.
- Who sees it: only our staff. We don't publish your score or comment.
- Public reviews: after you answer, we also send you a link to share your experience on Google if you'd like. That is up to you. What you post on Google is public and covered by Google's own privacy policy. We never ask you to post on Yelp.
If you sign up for our deals
- What: your mobile number or email address, which deals you signed up for (text, email or both), the wording you agreed to, how you signed up (website, shop tablet or texting DEALS) and the date and time. For website sign-ups we also record your IP address and browser.
- Why: to send you season news and special offers, only if you asked for them, and to keep proof of your choice.
- Signing up is always optional and never needed to get service or buy anything.
Our staff sign-in
Our private admin area is only for Stubborn Goat staff and our website support team. They sign in with their Google account. This is not open to customers.
Text messages (SMS)
This section explains our text message program, Stubborn Goat Shop Texts.
- What we send: order updates (for example, "we've got your skis" and "your gear is ready"), repair quotes and quote reminders, pickup reminders, replies to your messages, and one request for feedback after your visit (a short "How did we do?" question or a request to review our shop on Google).
- Deals by text (Stubborn Goat Deals). If you tick our separate, optional deals box, or text DEALS to (858) 877-9827, we'll also send you marketing texts, such as season opening news, tune specials and holiday deals. Up to 4 msgs/month. Signing up for order texts does not sign you up for deals, and signing up for deals does not sign you up for order texts. Replying STOP stops all our texts.
- How you sign up: by checking the optional texting box on our website contact form, or on the check-in tablet at the shop. The box is never checked for you. Agreeing to texts is not a condition of buying anything. If you don't agree, we'll still do your work and contact you by email or phone call.
- How often: message frequency varies. Most visits mean a few texts, for example a check-in confirmation, a quote if needed, a "ready for pickup" text and a reminder.
- Cost: Msg & data rates may apply, depending on your mobile plan.
- Stop anytime: reply STOP to any text to stop getting them. We'll send one text to confirm, then no more. Reply START to turn them back on. You can also tell us in the shop, by phone or by email.
- Help: reply HELP for help, or contact us at (858) 876-2453 or info@skistubborngoat.com.
- Who sends them: we use Twilio, a text message service, to send and receive our texts. Twilio handles your number and messages only to deliver them for us.
We do not share, sell, or provide your mobile phone number or messaging consent data to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party, except the text message service that delivers our own messages to you. Where this policy mentions sharing with service providers, that sharing never includes your text messaging opt-in data or consent for their own use.
Full text message terms are on our Terms page.
How signing up works in our shop, with pictures of the check-in screens, is on our Text messages page.
Emails
We email you about your gear: quotes, receipts, pickup reminders and a copy of your agreement. After a visit we may also ask you once how we did, or for a Google review. We send deals by email only if you signed up for them. Every deal email has an unsubscribe link, and we stop right away. Unsubscribing from deals doesn't stop emails about your gear.
Who we share information with
We share personal information only with companies that help us run the website and the shop, and only so they can do that job for us. They are not allowed to use it for their own marketing.
| Who | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosts our website and shop system, stores our data and photos, blocks spam and attacks, and gives us simple visitor counts. |
| Twilio | Sends and receives our text messages. |
| Our email service | Sends our emails, such as replies, receipts, your copy of the agreement and, if you signed up, our deals. |
| Our card payment company | Processes card and phone payments at the counter. |
| Our AI service provider | Helps our staff answer questions and draft replies inside our shop system. It may not use your information to train its AI or for its own purposes. |
| Lets our staff sign in to our admin area. Google receives customer information from us only if it is our AI service provider (see "AI tools our staff use"). |
We may also share information:
- If the law requires it, for example a valid court order.
- To protect our customers, our staff, our shop or others, for example to prevent fraud.
- If the business is sold or merged. The new owner would have to respect this policy for the information we already have.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising (ads based on your activity on other sites). We do not share it with other businesses for their direct marketing.
Cookies and tracking
- Our public web pages do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
- Our visitor counts (Cloudflare Web Analytics) do not use cookies and do not follow you across websites.
- Our staff admin area uses a sign-in cookie. It is only used by our staff.
- We don't allow other companies to collect information about your online activity across different websites through our site.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: because we don't track you across websites and don't sell or share your information for advertising, we treat every visitor the same way whether or not your browser sends a "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signal.
Links to other websites
Our site links to other websites, such as ski resort snow reports, Caltrans road conditions, Google Maps (for directions), Instagram, review sites and Revolution Snowsports. Those sites have their own privacy policies. We don't control what they collect.
How long we keep information
- Website messages: up to 2 years after we've handled them.
- Customer, gear, order, quote, agreement and payment records: up to 7 years after your last visit, for our business, tax and legal records.
- Your answers to "How did we do?" (score and comment) and thank-you rewards: kept with your customer record, up to 7 years after your last visit.
- Records of your texting choice (opt-in or STOP): up to 5 years after our last text to you, so we can show we respected your choice.
- Deal sign-ups and unsubscribes: up to 5 years after our last deal message to you. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address or number on a 'do not send' list for as long as we send deals, so we never contact you again by mistake.
- Technical logs kept by our hosting company: usually a short time, as set by Cloudflare.
When we no longer need information, we delete it or make it anonymous.
How we protect it
We use reasonable security for a small business: data sent over encrypted connections, staff sign-in limited to people we approve, and trusted service providers. No system is perfectly secure. If a security problem ever puts your personal information at risk, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to:
- see the personal information we have about you,
- fix anything that is wrong,
- delete your information (we may need to keep some records, for example payment records we must keep for taxes, or a record that you asked us to stop texting you or that you asked us to stop deals),
- stop texts (reply STOP), deal emails (the unsubscribe link in any deal email), or anything else (just tell us).
To ask, email info@skistubborngoat.com, call (858) 876-2453 or ask us in the shop. We may need to confirm it's you before we share or delete anything. We won't treat you differently for asking.
About California privacy law: California's Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) applies to businesses above certain size limits, such as more than $26,625,000 in yearly revenue, or buying, selling or sharing the personal information of 100,000 or more California consumers or households. Stubborn Goat is a small local shop and does not meet those limits today. We still honor the requests above for every customer.
California "Shine the Light": we don't share personal information with other businesses for their direct marketing.
Children
Our website is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. If you think a child has sent us information, contact us and we'll delete it. In the shop, we ask a parent or guardian to check in and sign for customers under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date at the top. If the change is important, we'll also show a notice on our home page for at least 30 days.
