Edge tune Stand-alone, not part of a package. Our seasoned pros dial in a true razor edge, precise and clean, without grinding away more metal than needed, which only weakens the edge over time. Ski binding remount We remove the old bindings, plug and seal the old holes against moisture, then re-drill, placing every new hole at least 1cm clear of any old one. From there, we remount the bindings, set the DIN, and run the function test. Skis can be remounted up to 3 times. $100
Binding test and calibration We check that your boots fit the bindings properly and that forward pressure is set correctly, then set the DIN based on your height, weight, skier type, and boot sole length. From there, we test the equipment to confirm your bindings release exactly when they should, not too early and not too late. $25
Heli-Coil insert When a screw or binding pulls out, we repair the hole with a threaded insert, bringing the mount back to its original strength. $15/insert

About Stubborn Goat

Stubborn Goat Ski & Board Tune Shop is a friendly, family-run independent shop that loves working with everyone from first-timers to seasoned powder hounds. We're particular about your gear, not your ability.

Stubborn Goat started in 2017 on 30th Street in North Park as a combined bike and ski shop. Since then, the businesses have evolved in different directions, and our ski and snowboard operation is now located at 7547 Convoy Court in Kearny Mesa, San Diego.

We’ve teamed up with Revolution Snowsports, an indoor ski and snowboard training facility, to create a pretty unique experience for San Diego. On one side of the building, you can work on your skiing or snowboarding year-round with indoor training. On the other, Stubborn Goat takes care of your skis and snowboards with professional tuning and service.

Sam, Owner and Technician

Sam has owned Stubborn Goat for nearly 10 years and has spent more than 25 years in the outdoor ski and bike industry. Much of that time was spent at REI, working as a ski and bike tech and eventually running shops from the East Coast to the West Coast.

He graduated with a degree in Parks and Recreation with a concentration in Adventure Sports, initially working as a guide before transitioning into the ski and bike shop world, and he’s been doing it ever since.

When he’s not tuning equipment, you’ll usually find him mountain biking or ripping around the mountain on his alpine snowboard. He’s also a dad of two young kids and especially enjoys introducing new people and families to skiing and snowboarding.

Adam, Ski Technician Extraordinaire

Adam has been part of Stubborn Goat for about five years. He’s a San Diego local, born and raised, is fluent in Spanish, and has spent plenty of time on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Before joining Stubborn Goat as our dedicated ski technician, Adam spent about 10 years in Mammoth working for Mammoth Mountain. When he’s not in the shop, there’s a good chance he’s out snowboarding.

Adam also runs his own unique business, Hooves on the Highway, rescuing goats that are injured or in bad situations and transporting them to sanctuaries where they can be properly cared for. Sometimes that means driving them hundreds or even thousands of miles. The goats ride comfortably in the back of his Subaru, stopping frequently for walks and fresh air. Needless to say, they make quite the roadside attraction.

Yes, our ski tech works for Stubborn Goat and also rescues actual goats. We couldn’t have planned that one better.

Ski and Snowboard Base Repair in San Diego

How We Patch a Ski or Snowboard Base

A base patch is one way we repair a large core shot. Here's what it looks like from start to finish.

We take a close look at the damage and prep the area before work begins.

The damaged base material is cut away cleanly, leaving a solid surface for the patch to bond to.

A patch is cut and shaped to match the void exactly.

The patch is set with a slow-cure epoxy resin and clamped down tight while it bonds.

Finished base patch leveled flush with the snowboard base
Level & Finish

The patch is painstakingly leveled flush with the base for a bomb-proof repair that seals out moisture and helps prevent core deterioration.

How We Weld a Ski or Snowboard Base

A P-tex weld is how we fix a deep gouge that's too big for a simple base fill. Here's what it looks like from start to finish.

P-Tex bonds to P-Tex, so damage that reaches below the P-Tex material and into the core can't simply be filled. Depending on the size and location of the damage, it may require a patch, weld, or bonded base repair.

We cut out the damaged material, bevel the edges, and clean the area thoroughly, then warm the surface with a heat gun before welding.

Step 2

We apply a metal-grip primer to the edge surface, then fire up the base welder and weld in new P-tex material.

Step 3

Scrape & Blend

This is the difficult, time-consuming step. We patiently remove all the excess material by hand with a metal scraper and a planer, then finish it off on the base grinder.

The final step is finishing the tune. We dial in the edges and bake in a fresh coat of wax so your gear leaves the shop fast, smooth, and ready to ride.

  • When you check in equipment: your name, phone number, mailing address, email address (if provided), and details about your skis, snowboard, boots, and bindings, including the skier information needed to set bindings safely.
  • When you contact us through this website: your name, email address, and message.
  • When you pay: payments are handled by our payment processors. We do not store full card numbers.

How we use your information

  • To service your equipment and keep a record of the work we do.
  • To contact you about your order, including when your equipment is ready for pickup.
  • To send occasional shop updates, such as a change of location, opening dates, or reminders about equipment left at the shop.
  • To reply to questions you send us.

How we share your information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the shop, such as our text messaging, email, website, and payment providers, and only so they can provide those services to us. We may also disclose information when required by law.
